About St. Louis
The city of St. Louis, Missouri, settled by the French, bordered by the Mississippi River is named after King Louis IX. Commonly referred to as the "Gateway to the West" due to the many people who moved west through St. Louis via the Missouri River. Since the beginning of the 20th century, St. Louis has been known for it's wide range of entertaiment. In 1904, the city hosted the World's Fair and the Olympic Games, which happened to be the first one ever held in the United States. Moving into the 21st century, St. Louis has transformed from a manufacturing and industrial economy into a globally known locale for research in medicine, biotechnology, and other sciences.
